Marco Bulk Aircraft Hangar

Aircraft Storage Hangar at Marco Island Executive Airport

This project began with a unique surcharging process to address deep, uncompacted earthen material on site. A 15,000-square-foot, 16-foot-tall surcharge mound was constructed to force settlement of the soil. Settlement plates with risers inside PVC tubes were installed to monitor ground movement. DEC Contracting coordinated biweekly surveys, transmitting readings to the Geotechnical Engineer and the Engineer of Record for review. Once settlement was confirmed complete, the surcharge pad was removed, and construction of the new aircraft hangar commenced.

The final scope included construction of an 11,000-square-foot aircraft hangar. Work began with placement of approximately 400 cubic yards of concrete for the slab, followed by erection of a pre-engineered metal building weighing 180,000 lbs. Key features included a 117-foot-wide by 28-foot-tall pocketing hangar door, high-volume low-speed (HVLS) fan, louvers, exhaust fans, four man doors, a fire alarm system, access control, lightning protection, aircraft grounding system, tug charger installation, and sealing of the exposed concrete floor.

All work was performed airside, directly adjacent to active runways and taxiways, requiring careful coordination to avoid disruption to aircraft operations.

The project was successfully completed on time and under budget, with no contractor-initiated change orders, demonstrating DEC Contracting’s commitment to precision, efficiency, and operational safety in highly regulated environments.
