AMU Men’s Locker Room
Quonset Hut Facility for Locker Room Use
The Men’s Locker Rooms Project consisted of the ground-up construction of a pre-engineered Quonset Hut–style metal building, designed to serve as locker rooms, showers, and restroom facilities for the university’s outdoor men’s athletic programs. The building’s distinctive round dome architecture makes it a signature facility on campus, both functional and visually striking.
DEC Contracting tied the facility into the university’s existing chilled water HVAC system and completed all associated sitework, grading, building erection, interior finishes, painting, and flooring. At the donor’s request—given his strong military background—the building was painted in a custom camouflage design, hand-painted by the contractor to further honor his contribution.
This project holds special significance for the university, as it represents the first dedicated locker room facility for outdoor men’s sports teams, and is part of a broader phased plan to provide separate facilities for both men’s and women’s outdoor athletics.
Although the project required accommodating multiple design revisions and owner-driven changes, DEC Contracting successfully navigated these challenges, delivering a one-of-a-kind facility that reflects both the donor’s vision and the university’s commitment to supporting its athletes.
